Your Exhaust System For a hood to exhaust properly you must first determine the fan size. Then make sure the filter area and the ducting is sized to the fan. By doing this your hood will run quietly and efficiently Wall Hoods: 75-100 CFM per sq ft of open area Example: Bottom opening of the hood is 2'x 3', equaling 6 sq ft, a 450-600CFM fan needed Island Hoods: 100-150CFM per sq ft of open area Example: bottom opening of hood is 2'x 3' ,equaling 6 sq ft ,600-900CFM fan needed Fans that are mounted inside the hood need to be incorporated in the design phase. If a remote fan is used, it can be mounted on the roof or a side wall.
